About Kiawah and Seabrook
Seabrook is a private island resort that consists of approximately 2,200 acres, with maritime forest, salt marshes and beaches. Seabrook has 2.5 miles of shoreline, and another mile of sand on the tidal North Edisto River.
Seabrook is heavily wooded with majestic oaks, palm trees, live oaks, pines, Spanish Moss, magnolias and sweetgum trees. Seabrook participates in the Audubon Cooperation Sanctuary, North American bird watching Open since 1998, and has taken top honors each year. There are over 80 species of birds on the island, to include many threatened and endangered species. Herons and egrets are common sites in the marshes, lagoons and lakes.
Seabrook is also home to many other animals – to include whitetail deer, red foxes, alligators, chameleons, turtles, and alligators. Dolphins area regularly seen swimming along shore, and Seabrook is a nesting site for Loggerhead turtles.
Seabrook has two championship golf courses, a tennis center, an equestrian center (to include horseback riding), a fitness center, several restaurants and much more. Camp St. Christopher is also located on Seabrook and has various camp programs for children of all ages.
Kiawah is also a private island resort, and has 10 miles of pristine beach, which is more beachfront that any individually planned resort community on the Eastern seaboard. Kiawah was voted the “Most Romantic Spot” and the “Best Spot to Walk on the Beach” by Southern Living’s Editorial staff. The Travel Channel has also highlighted the island in it’s Top Beaches of the US several times.
Kiawah has hosted the World Cup and the Ryder Cup in past years, and will be hosting the Senior PGA and the PGA in the 2012. Kiawah is also listed 44th in the Top 100 Golf Courses in the US by Golf Magazine and was listed 9th in the Top 45 Golf Courses in the Past 45 years by Golf Magazine.
Kiawah recently opened a new luxury hotel on the island, called The Sanctuary, a five diamond resort. This hotel offers three pools, a world class tennis complex, a luxurious spa, two restaurants, and much more.
Kiawah and Seabrook both host many nature programs, and programs designed specifically for children.
